Our Hours Are Changing! And Updates of Our Future.

First, I’d like to start this post by saying that we are forever grateful to the wonderful kite community and all its members that have supported us over the years. This was not an easy decision to make, but it was the only decision that made sense. And before you worry, No, we are not closing our doors.

As some of you already know, Kite Country has been serving the kite community in different forms and locations for over 50 years now, the last 26 of which were here at Sports Arena Boulevard. In this time, kites and its related activities has had its popularity shift in both directions, and we rode those waves, through the ups, and the downs. And while kiting has been on an uptrend in recent years, its different this time, and we have to read the writing on the wall.

We are not busy enough to justify opening 5 days a week anymore. Along with that, we have gotten news that the looming threat of the “Midway Rising” project is finally moving forward, and our days are closer and closer to looking numbered. In light of this, we have realized that we need to start preparing our business for the next step, and for that preparation to begin, we need to allot more time to working ON the business, rather than AT the business. This change, then, will help us kill two birds with one stone. (Or perhaps, fly two kites with one string.)

In the coming months, lots of things will be changing at Kite Country. The first to change being our Hours of Operation. Starting on the last week of September / first week of October, we will no longer open on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Our official hours will be 11am-6pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The next change won’t happen immediately. It will be a slow roll out as more items will be appearing for sale on our website. Our website in general will be getting an eventual overhaul to accommodate this, however, don’t expect this to happen until at least late 2026/early 2027.

The final change that will happen in an indeterminate amount of time, will be the closing of our current location. This will only happen once the “Midway Rising” project finally gives us an eviction notice. This has been on the horizon for a while now, and while it is still most likely quite some time away, it could still technically happen at any time. We are unsure at this time if the closing of this location will mark the final end of Kite Country, logistics surrounding relocating are still early in the works, but if it is, we are quite thankful of how supportive every one of our customers has been to help us stay afloat in these extremely difficult times.

But for now, we are still around, still flying our kites. And we hope to see you flying kites as well.
